Siemens and Strategy& media roundtable on the state of digitalization in GCC businesses

06 December, 2016

On Tuesday, December 6, the Ideation Center at Strategy&, in conjunction with Siemens, hosted a media roundtable at Dubai’s 3D-printed Office of the Future conference to launch their first joint report, “Preparing for the digital era: The state of digitalization in GCC businesses.” Dietmar Siersdorfer, CEO, Siemens Middle East and UAE, along with Strategy& seniors Samer Bohsali and Sevag Papazian, presented the key findings of the study to tier-1 media in the region and addressed their questions. The report, which is based on a survey covering 306 companies across all major industries in Qatar and the UAE, emphasizes the benefits businesses stand to gain from digitalization and offers a road map that shows how to undertake a fully holistic approach to a digital transformation.

Highlights from the report:

  • 60% of the companies surveyed believe that digitalization has the potential to create new business models or lead to a more open culture of innovation
  • Only 3% of organizations believe they are at an advanced stage of their digital transformation process, with only 18% using the cloud and 30% using big data and analytics specifically
  • The GCC is positioned to fully embrace the disruptive potential of digitalization, across all sectors
  • Governments and consumers lead the digital uptake in the GCC, with GCC companies lagging behind
