Dr. Walid Tohme
Partner, Strategy& Middle East
Dr. Walid Tohme is a Partner with Strategy&’s Healthcare practice in the Middle East with over 20 years experience. He is based in Riyadh.
Dr. Walid has established himself as a trusted advisor to major healthcare providers, payors, and regulators across the GCC and has built an exceptional network of senior clients at key accounts, He specializes in strategic transformations, biotech, research and innovation agendas, healthcare investment strategies, corporatizations and partnerships. He has worked extensively with both public and private sector players.
Some of Walid’s flagship client programs include:
- Supporting the establishment of a leading hospital in UAE
- Developing a Joint Venture between a globally recognized U.S. based healthcare partnership organization and a major national energy company in Saudi Arabia
- Establishing a world-leading healthcare and biotech city in Riyadh
- Crafting the early design of the ministry of health transformation in Saudi Arabia and the separation of the ministry into a regulator, payor and a provider system
- Supporting the corporatization of a Saudi royal commission’s healthcare entity
- Pioneering the early development of the biotech ecosystem in the Kingdom
He has more than 40 publications to his name in leading healthcare and technology journals, speaks regularly at major international conferences (such as the FII), with frequent media and TV appearances.
Before joining Strategy&’s Middle East office, Walid was based in New York. He was also a post-doctoral fellow and an Associate Professor at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, DC for over 9 years.
Walid has a Ph.D. from Paris Sorbonne University in the management of health systems, and an MBA, as well as master’s and bachelor’s degrees in electrical engineering, from Georgia Tech in the U.S.
