Former Industry/Office: Digital and Technology, Riyadh
Alumnus since 2014
In early 2013, after graduating from the Industrial Engineering school at Alfaisal University in Riyadh, Abdulaziz Aldawood got a call from Strategy&. His memory of the call is distinct, although the same couldn’t be said of the call connection. It came at 7:00 on a Friday night, and he could barely hear through the static as a partner, calling from South America, offered him a job as an analyst. Abdulaziz accepted, with thoughts of international travel to interesting locales, then spent the first three months at the firm working on project proposals at the Kingdom Tower office in Riyadh. Finally, he was assigned to a team working with a GCC telecom operator.
In the months that followed, Abdulaziz worked very closely with different teams, all of which were impressive in their own right. It offered, as he recalls, a continuous stream of learning opportunities, overwhelming and exciting at the same time. Abdulaziz still keeps in touch with many of his colleagues from this time and is proud to call them close friends.
In 2014, Abdulaziz joined the founding team of Alraedah Finance to launch the first and only financing company focused entirely on SMEs in the kingdom. He helped set up the company operations, including sales, credit, and other supporting functions. Alraedah was able to originate more than SAR150 million of loans in its first year and a half and grew from six employees to more than 50 today.
At the end of 2015, Abdulaziz left Alraedah to pursue his master’s degree at the University of Washington in Seattle, in the United States, where he earned a degree in industrial and systems engineering. During his time in Seattle, he worked as a research assistant with the University of Washington Medical Center where he was tasked with improving the patient flow process in outpatient clinics.
In 2017, Abdulaziz joined an up-and-coming AI startup in Boston called DataRobot as a customer-facing data science consultant. Working with clients across the east coast of the U.S., Abdulaziz quickly realized he needed to wear his management consultant hat rather than the technical hat. So he set out to help his clients define their high level and strategic business objectives and show how the data science solution supported these objectives. Taking this approach, Abdulaziz and his team were able to deliver millions of dollars of ROI to a number of clients across different industries, from fintech to communications.
Recently, Abdulaziz returned to Alraedah Finance in Riyadh as the chief commercial officer. He is tasked with transforming Alraedah into the go-to place in the region for SMEs to get financing.
Outside of work, Abdulaziz hangs out with his family, and he loves to play the video game “Football Manager.” From time to time, he and his wife take random road trips, spending several days exploring new places.
