  • Regulatory support for investments: Provided testimony in support of transition and ongoing O&M costs for the customer care, infrastructure, and finance systems investments of an investor-owned multinational water company.
  • Business unit strategy: Led engagements to develop strategies to serve the markets in which the client operates. Analysis included development of customer profitability models segmented by usage and buying characteristics, and development of back-off processes and systems and related cost-to-serve models.
  • Mergers and acquisitions: Directed engagements focused on post-merger integration planning, including strategic framework development, synergy identification, and program management assistance. Also providing expert testimony in a state jurisdiction relating to the quantified benefits from the proposed transaction.
  • Customer operations: Directed engagements to develop a customer care and operations strategy that improved cost performance from the bottom 25% to top 25%. Strategies implemented included standardizing business processes, simplifying governance and work activities, and implementing technology enablers. Also led strategy development for the potential outsourcing of customer care functions, including scope definition, negotiation preparation and strategy, contract structuring, value proposition determination, and business requirements creation.

Mr. Van den Berg holds an MBA in finance and investments from the George Washington University and a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Virginia Tech.
