Mr. Irwin has led numerous key client assignments, including:
Led the analysis of information technology outsourcing for a leading US insurer. Explored world class benchmarks and providers and identified areas where the client was either already at best/appropriate performance levels and areas where there were clear opportunities to outsource. Key elements of the analyses included market-back understanding, vendor discussion, benchmarking, and consideration of non-outsourcing improvement opportunities.
Led an enterprise-wide reengineering transformation program for one of the largest multi-line insurers in the United States. Important elements of the work included: restructuring the agent channel to be more market-focused; redesigning and centralizing much of the servicing and administrative activities in lower cost, higher quality service centers; and reorganizing and developing new processes for IT.
Designed a new operating vision and identified needed capabilities across all existing functions for a major health insurer embarking on a new consumer-focused corporate strategy. Led the e-commerce initiatives that developed the e-business strategy for the company driven by a deep understanding of their customers’ needs.
Led the design and development of a new-to-the-world, health/wealth convergence product for one of the world’s leading financial services players. Work spanned from product design through to implementation of the organization, operations, and systems, and the necessary partnerships, alliances, and marketing campaigns.
A recognized thought leader, Mr. Irwin has contributed to numerous Strategy& studies, including “Informatics as a Competitive Advantage for Health Plans,” “Getting IT Right – An Approach to Managing IT Complexity,” and an eInsurance Study. He also is a frequent speaker at industry and company forums on the optimal use of the web in attracting and servicing.
Prior to joining Strategy&, Mr. Irwin was a vice president of Citicorp’s Investment Banking Group where he led the start up of the bank’s new broker/dealer subsidiary.
Mr. Irwin holds an MBA in Management Science and Finance from Columbia University Graduate School of Business and a BA in Economics from Rutgers College.
