Bob Mark is a Strategy& Senior Executive Advisor based in Abu Dhabi working with clients in the public and private sectors, primarily in defence and security in Europe and the Middle East.
Bob has extensive experience in leadership, strategy development, organisational design, transformational change and large-scale efficiency programmes. This experience spans the UK, USA and the Middle East where he has been responsible for innovative thinking in major acquisition, logistics transformation and public-private commercial programmes.
Examples of his client assignments are:
- Developing the strategy, operating model and overseeing successful implementation for a radical new multi-platform naval acquisition programme
- Developing the strategy and managing core aspects of a £2.3bn efficiency transformation
- Devising the strategy and leading key aspects of the operating model development for two separate national multi-year Joint Logistics Transformation programmes
- Conducting multiple market evaluation and strategic investment appraisals which identified investment priorities and market opportunities for various Global Defence and Aerospace clients
Bob began his professional career as a seaman officer in the Royal Navy, rising to the rank of Rear Admiral and commanding three ships. He initially specialised in the sciences of Hydrography and Military Oceanography, leading military survey and research programmes in many parts of the world, before taking wider roles in UK Defence planning and policy development. As the first director of corporate strategy for UK joint service defence logistics, he played a pivotal role in one of the largest public sector transformation programmes undertaken in the UK. He has worked on secondment to BAE Systems, helping senior leadership develop industrial partnering strategies.
He completed his public sector career as a Director at the Royal College of Defence Studies in London, before joining Strategy& in 2007. Since then he has worked with international clients on some of Strategy&’s largest and most challenging military-industrial projects. He was elected to the partnership in 2011.
Bob holds a BSc in Earth Sciences and an MSc in Management from the London Business School, where he was a Sloan Fellow. He is a Chartered Director with the UK Institute of Directors and a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Navigation.
He is interested in conservation issues and has been Master of a City of London Livery Company–the Worshipful Company of Water Conservators–and served for three years as a member of the largest regional board of the National Trust–one of the UK’s foremost conservation organisations.
