An offshore engineering strategy

Thanks to the rapid growth of Asian auto markets, a major Tier I auto supplier was looking to strengthen its product development and engineering services capability in India and China.

So it asked Strategy& to assess its North American and European engineering services organization and identify an ideal global engineering services footprint, based on technical capabilities, markets and cost to serve, and then to identify an engineering services company that could meet the client's needs in both markets.

Following a detailed assessment of the client's engineering services organization and a critical evaluation of the capabilities of several potential third-party engineering services firms, we identified a suitable partner, helped negotiate the contractual details, and assisted the client as it ramped up its engineering organization in India.
