A Tier I automotive supplier asked Strategy& to help diagnose and improve the performance of its global product development organization. We baselined the performance of its global organization and identified a high degree of variance.
Not surprisingly, we discovered that the company’s co-located innovation teams significantly outperformed its distributed teams, and we found multiple points of failure in the execution of the company’s product development programs.
After analyzing the root causes of the failures, we worked with the company to redefine the processes it used to capture and transfer knowledge and to manage its relations with global partners. Once the company’s engineering teams incorporated the new processes and practices, it began seeing real, measurable improvement in both engineering cycle time and product quality.
