Postmerger strategy and implementation
- Two leading telecommunications service providers joined forces to become a major provider. Strategy& was retained to help with their merger and beyond. The firm’s involvement in the postmerger integration encompassed three main areas to ensure a competitive, lean, leading market player: strategy, organization, and IT.
- Strategy& reviewed the company’s overall strategy and defined the road ahead, including its positioning, business model, customer segments, sales strategy, and price/product mix. As the merged companies resulted in a multitude of brands, the future brand portfolio was validated and an overarching retail brand strategy designed. In parallel, Strategy& supported the restructuring and reorganization of the merged companies and was instrumental in implementing the new organization, including performing works council negotiations and setup of new departments. Finally, Strategy& coordinated the functional and economic assessment of all current IT systems, defined the target system landscape on the basis of identified functional gaps and business cases in joint work modules, and prepared implementation in detail. The project ensured that the newly merged company was prepared to realize its future growth potential, supported by a well-defined commercial and IT strategy, an effective organization, and a new retail brand. Strategy& identified cost savings and synergies worth €60 million (US$77 million), which are currently being realized.
