U.S. bank seeks growth

U.S. bank seeks growth

For a multi-line bank providing personal banking, wealth management, and corporate banking, Strategy& developed the corporate portfolio and line of business strategies. The 12-week project identified brand, market, cost, and revenue opportunities exceeding $100 million, effectively doubling current profitability.

Product distribution strategy for a major Australian bank

Strategy& was engaged to help a major Australian bank build a more sustainable distribution strategy to align the various business units and distribution channels around customer needs, and future high-value opportunities. Strategy& conducted a series of interviews with internal stakeholders and external competitors to baseline current distribution capabilities and to understand where the client had a ‘right to win.’ The result was a long list of 20 distribution opportunities including new products, new platforms, optimization of existing channels, and formation of distribution alliances that the bank prioritized and acted upon to grow market share.

Redefining the role of a U.K. bank’s group central functions

Redefining the role of a U.K. bank’s group central functions

For a leading global bank, headquartered in the United Kingdom, Strategy& redefined the role of group central functions. The team worked with the client to first help them develop their understanding of what type of corporate core they required (from highly involved management to remote portfolio management), and then develop two key principles for them: that decisions are best taken close to the customer, and that the center should primarily exercise governance and control responsibilities. This enabled the client to clarify the controls exercised by the group center and remove duplications (by devolving more than 75 percent of group personnel to the businesses), and ensured the business units better understood both their own responsibilities and what they could expect from the group.

Post-merger integration for a leading European bank and large local retail bank in Brazil

Post-merger integration for a leading European bank and large local retail bank in Brazil

Strategy& supported the post-merger integration of a leading European bank, with a strong presence in Brazil, a large local retail bank with similar size and branch network, but significant differences in corporate cultures, client perception, and brand recognition. The merger resulted in one of the largest local financial conglomerates, with 12 percent market share and more than 2,100 branches in the country. Our work included conducting legal, accounting, strategy, and IT due diligence, developing integration strategy and process, and creating processes and tools for program planning, coordination, and control. Additionally, we supported the wholesale banking and middle market segments in creating the baseline, strategy definition, integration planning, and execution.

Post-merger integration for a German IT provider

Post-merger integration for a German IT provider

Strategy& managed the PMI of two banking-IT service providers to form the largest banking-IT provider with more than 5,500 employees. We developed the target organization model, harmonized their banking-IT product offering, adjusted key management processes, and integrated their internal IT systems. As a result, annual savings of more than 20 percent have been realized.
