Independent Review Recommends Change in UK Legal Aid Delivery and Governance

An independent review of the Legal Services Commission undertaken by Sir Ian Magee, who is also a senior adviser to Booz and Company, recommends fundamental changes to the governance, structure, and financial management supporting the delivery of the UK's £2.1 billion legal aid budget. The report, "Review of Legal Aid Delivery and Governance" was commissioned by Justice Secretary Jack Straw in October 2009. It makes a number of immediate recommendations, and suggests a longer-term, staged approach to change.

The Justice Secretary announced in Parliament on 3 March that he accepted the recommendations. A press release, including a link to the full report, can be found on the MoJ website.
