Q&A

Q: When you joined PwC's Strategy&?

A: 2013 (Full-time)

Q: Why Strategy&?

A: After studying Economics at university, I wanted to find a job that would allow me to sample a variety of different industries, keep me intellectually stimulated and develop my skills quickly. Strategy consulting has allowed me to do just that - I'm a year in and it's been a great start.

I really enjoy the mix of work - about half of what I do is solving tough strategic problems for CEOs and other business leaders, and the other half has been advising top Private Equity houses on their M&A and growing their portfolio businesses. By working in small teams to deliver these projects I have met a variety of people with different approaches – this has helped me feel comfortable in new environments as well as develop my own approach to work. I have found my colleagues to be really approachable and sociable – always open to questions and keen to offer on the job help, which has helped me transition quite quickly and easily from a student life to the workplace culture. Outside of work I love to watch documentaries, TV shows and do a bit of trekking when the weather allows me to.

Q: What's been your most rewarding project to date?

A: In the time I have been here, I have had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects across both corporate and M&A strategy, from finding potential new markets for a leading construction company to designing the optimal business model for a mobility aids retailer. One that stands out for me involved supporting a private equity firm in identifying and assessing growth opportunities for a business they were considering investing in. I was quite surprised with the level of responsibility given to me – ranging from assessing the target company’s competitive advantages to directly presenting to senior executives at the private equity firm. Working on this project encouraged me to challenge myself, and helped me develop both my soft and technical skills.
