Dr. Florian Gröne is an advisor to executives in the communications, media, and high-technology sectors for Strategy&, PwC's strategy consulting group. Based in New York, he is a principal with PwC U.S. He has more than 15 years of professional and consulting experience, focused on digital business and technology strategy. He has spent a decade serving clients across Europe and the Middle East, and has been based in the United States since 2012.

His current work centers on two themes:

  • Corporate, business and product strategies for Digital markets – including transformational change through M&A and divestitures, and by re-thinking digital products, services and customer experiences
  • Fit for Growth* technology operating models for the digital age – leveraging concepts such as agile, lean, and cloud

Florian co-leads the firm’s annual Global ICT 50 study, which covers the world’s 50 largest providers of information and communication technology and services to enterprises. Recent issues include “Battle for the cloud: The 2014 Strategy& Global ICT 50 study”, “Builders of the digital ecosystem: The 2013 Strategy& global ICT 50 study”, and “The 2012 Global ICT 50: The supply side of digitization.”

He is a prolific author of thought pieces on industry-leading strategy, technology and digital topics. His ideas and perspectives have been featured in top-tier business publications such as the Financial Times, strategy+business, Bloomberg Business, Forbes, and Computer Weekly, among others.

Prior to joining the firm in 2002, Florian worked in the then new internet economy as a project manager for B2B e-commerce pioneer FreeMarkets, Inc. (now part of Ariba/SAP), and as a Venture Capital Associate with Gi Ventures AG, a German early stage investor. He started his career as an Intern and Freelancer with Hamburger Morgenpost and Focus Magazin, two German news publishers.

Florian holds a PhD - summa cum laude - in Corporate Strategy from WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management in Vallendar, Germany. He also earned an MBA from the Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh, a Master in Business (Diplom-Kaufmann) from EBS University of Business and Law in Oestrich-Winkel, Germany, and a Master in Economics (Diplom-Volkswirt) from the University of Hagen, Germany.

Florian and his family enjoy city life from their base on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, and periodic breaks in a 100-year-old farm house in the Uckermark region outside Berlin, Germany.
