Sir Ian Forbes is a Strategy& Senior Executive Advisor based in London who provides the Company with strategic advice when working with clients in the defence and security sector. He has also represented Booz as a speaker and commentator in international fora.
He has wide experience in leadership, strategy making, transformation implementation and management, and the optimisation of technology in multinational/partnership settings. His work has encompassed NATO and Coalition environments in many parts of the World.
Sir Ian is a retired Four Star Admiral. He commanded in every rank, including the Carrier INVINCIBLE, the UK Battle Group and the Surface Flotilla. In his final job, he was NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Atlantic, with responsibilities for establishing the new Allied Command Transformation. He also worked in Bosnia in the aftermath of the war in Yugoslavia. Since joining Booz, he has been involved across a range of change and transformation programmes in public sector fields.
A Commander of the British Empire, he was awarded the Queens Commendation for Valuable Service, and the US Legion of Merit, and was the first recipient of the NATO Meritorious Medal for his work on NATO Transformation. He was knighted in 2003.
Sir Ian is a graduate of the Royal College of Defence Studies. He is an Associate Fellow of RUSI, a Visiting Fellow of the Oxford Leverhulme Programme and an alumnus of the Windsor Leadership Trust. His wider activities embrace charity work in education and mentoring.
