James is an Associate based in Sydney. He's currently working on a project in Melbourne, conducting a feasibility analysis of a five-year strategic plan for an industrial company. He shares his typical week.

I wake up at 5:30am to catch a flight to Melbourne. On arrival, we have a team meeting over coffee to discuss the priorities for the week ahead, and in particular, the tasks I will be responsible for during the week. I then meet with the job manager to develop a hypothesis for my workstream, to be tested against data we just received from the client. I get to work on the analysis and deliverable. At 6:30pm we head to the office and fetch sushi for dinner.

I wake up for an early morning run down the Yarra River with a colleague from the Melbourne office. I head to the client site and after a quick breakfast, continue building my analysis. At 6:00pm, we head to a bar next to the client’s office for a team catch up.

Again, up early for a run down the Yarra. After breakfast with a friend in the office, we head to the client site to prepare for a Steering Committee meeting. Having finished the Steering Committee preparations, we gather at a local pub for dinner and a trivia night.

After breakfast and coffee, the team is briefed by the partner on the outcomes from the morning’s Steering Committee meeting; we confirm our individual approaches and I meet with the client counterpart to review my analysis. I jump on a flight home in time for dinner with my housemates.

Back home, I head out for a coffee with colleagues from my home office, and try to fit in some work between catching up on local news. We have an afternoon training session on industry developments, which rolls into office drinks and some questionable karaoke decisions.

On Saturdays, I try to sleep in and read the weekend papers. During the winter, I may head to the country to referee a game of rugby union. In the summer, I’ll hop down to Bondi for a swim and late lunch before having dinner with friends.

If the weather’s good, I try to make it out for a long run or an ocean swim on Sunday, before spending the afternoon reading. Later, I’ll cook dinner with my housemates before packing for another week on the road.
